New Hope

I've been watching another movie called New Hope. I really liked that baptism was included in thecredits, altought it wasn't included as requirement for Salvation. However, the Bible says it is required (Acts 2:37-28)

I reall liked it because it reminded me of my book in a way. However, with a book you knowwhat a character is thinkign better. In my book, "Crowded," I write in Josh feeling sorry for the way he treated Cole and wanting to stop but feeling like he can't.

Ben Davies (Lucas did pretty good with facial expressions. With the look on his face in the scene where Samuel Davis (Mike) apologizes, you can see on Lucas face he is sorry for bullying Mike. Of course it gets followed by Lucas being cocky but you could tell his cockiness was faker than earlier. Earlier in the movie Lucas was just cocky and a jerk. In that scene it looked as if he felt a need to "Keep it up".

In my book, "Crowded" Josh stands up to Cole's abusive dad just to talk bad abotu him a few sentences later.  Josh shows vulnerablity in most parts of my book, while Lucas shows vulnerabilty after he manhandles  Jasmine (Perry Frost).

I really enjoyed Lucas' emotional scene where he was hitting baseball bats against a tree. Ii showed how he really felt and he was not taking it out on another person in that scene. I also liked Lucas' vulnerability in the roof scene and when he tells Mike God doesn't want anythign to do with him (Lucas). Those scenes remind me of Josh in "Crowded" who feels the same way and does attempt suicide as well.

Mike's sister Faith was adorable. She was great comic relief and said probably what most kids are thinking "I never get to hear the good stuff" and calls ppl "meaner".

New Hope was a great movie about loving the unlovable and forgiving others. I really liked it. Some of the ending pictures were cheesy but I liked some of the pictures. I like Beastly and some ofthat was cheesy too.

MOVIE SPOILER ALERT

Today I watched a movie from the Family Christian store called, "Pivot Point."  It basically is about a boy (Sam)  struggling with homosexuality, a girl struggling with her mom's death, a girl who lost her virgnity and a boy (Lucas)  who is planning a school shooting.

Okay the school shooting at the beginning, that's what would have happened if  Sam  had not picked Lucas up on the way to school on a rainy day.  However, the boy was still bullied and still felt left out. He also liked a girl Sam was close with.

So, what really happened is the shooting was stopped and he got arrested.

He was stopped by the kindness of the Sam  who overcame  his struggle with homosexuality by telling his parents what their neighbor did. The girl whose mom died told on Lucas for bringing a gun to school.
Also, his unloving dad also started to show him love and that's what stopped him

I really think you should watch this, as it puts things into perspective and that's wha tI'm trying to do with my book.

Only the school shooting in my book took the lives of other characters and the characters dying in the beginning of "Pivot Point" was a what-if sort of deal.

I also want to let you know, even though homosexuality is a sin, you need to love people who are gay. Speak to them with gentleness and respect. That's how the Bible says to preach the Word. Only use "strong stuff" when necessary. That means NO WESTBORO BAPTIST methods.  There are so many thing out there that are sin. Homosexuality is NOT the only sin.
Also, just because you think somone of the same sex is good-looking, or got raped by same sex person or just because someone calls you gay does not mean you are.

Somestimes, it's better to just listen. When you've said all you said about any point in the Bible and especially if you've shown verses and people still don't agree, just be patient and keep loving them.

As a young lady who talks way more and inserts foot in mouth or keyboard WAY more than I should, I  still agree that at times it's better to just listen. That's what Job did.

OCD

I would like to share with you some information about  OCD and am using http://www.ocdsite.com/different-types-of-ocd-obsessions-and-compulsions/ to explain to you what it really is.

OCD is not "I'm a huge fan of Justin Bieber" or "I saw all 3 Narnia movies more than once" or "I want to marry Channing Tatum."

It's also thoughts telling you that you don't like any of those when you do.

The sexual thoughts of OCD are not limited to someone you really are lusting after. If you want to have sex with Harry Styles and think those thoughts, you are lusting. If you don't think he's hot or he isn't neccesarily someone you would want to have sex with or you actually think hes a jerk and butt-ugly then you are not lusting. That is the OCD

BTW I think Harry Styles is very attractive and I <3 his hair.

If you are religious, it also involves constant blasphemous thoughts of the religious figure you follow.

When you have a religion, you have an idea of the consequences of those thoughts and you constantly ask the religious figure you follow to forgive you.

Thing is, Jesus knows your heart.  He will forgive you and I know it seems hopeless and makes you unsure.

If you don't know Jesus give Him a chance.

Believe, Confess, Repent and be Baptized and you will be forgiven.

Also, the thought becomes sin when you actually agree with it.

And if you choose not to be a Christian but still want help from this post on any OCD you may be struggling with,

Just know you are not alone. No, it's not your fault. Nobody put a spell on you, no one is after you and you are not Demon-possesed. You are not gross, stupid or weird.

2-3 million adults and 500,000 kids suffer from this everyday.

About My Books

Crowded speaks on bullying and how everybody hurts. It’s about not giving into lust and forgiving yourself. Josh, Cole and Emily learn to keep their focus on God instead of fighting over a girl/ having someone fight over you. Cole is abused, while Josh struggles with his past and doing what’s right. Josh is the bad guy with a heart of gold. Emily is flattered by the flirtations but at the same time, she knows not to enjoy having guys fight over her. In a way Emily does not enjoy Josh’s advances, but in another way she’s flattered. She cares about Cole, but is hurt he sent a sext to another girl.   Honestly, I wish more guys were like Josh in that they try to be stronger Christians and actually have remorse for their actions. Also I try to point out that abuse/bullying can be verbal and physical.

Perfect Forgiveness also speaks on bullying and how far it can drive a person. I also put the focus on how a person should love their enemies and forgive others. I really adore the character of Kirk Williams. He is truly remorseful for the shooting and wanted to back out so badly. I just feel sorry for him. He has a caring, protective side to him but let his hatred for anyone who tormented him overshadow that side of him. He never fit in anywhere.

I am working on a third book in the series. It’s about a Spanglish girl with OCD and Asperger’s and a cute boy who was not always cute. It explores their insecurities and some romance. Stay tuned.

Interview with Karen Baney

Name of Author: Karen Baney

Name of Books: Prescott Pioneers Series: A Dream Unfolding, A Heart Renewed, A Life Restored, A Hope Revealed

Contemporary novel: Nickels

Twitter account, blog and link to where someone can purchase your books:

Twitter: @karen_baney

Amazon Author Page: http://amazon.com/author/karenbaney
Barnes & Noble: Barnes & Noble

I see you write Contemporary Romance. How do you write it to be relevant and stay true to God?

In my novel Nickels, I follow the life of a broken-hearted young woman, Niki Turner. As she struggles to deal with her painful past, she is reunited with Kyle who made her life difficult in High School. Now, eight years later as she is forced to work with him on a project for her work, she starts to see how he has changed from the teen she knew. He is kind and patient and nice to her.

For this novel, I kept the characters realistic. Change is slow in real life and so it is with my characters, whether in a contemporary novel or a historical. Sometimes it can be challenging to write relevant modern characters, but I just keep God involved in the process. A lot of prayer goes into each of my novels.

What inspired you to write Christian historical?

I grew up reading Christian historical novels by Janette Oke and Tracie Peterson. Both of these women’s books were inspirational to me as a teen and 20-something. So, when I felt the tug on my heart to begin writing, it seemed a natural place to land. I also love history, so that makes the research for my novels a double joy!

I see writing has had some trending topics on twitter. What are your take on them and which ones have you participated in?

I loosely follow #pubwrite, #pubtips, #selfpub and #amwriting. It’s more as I have time, which is difficult with a full time job and my own writing and marketing efforts. But, sometimes I’ve come across a few gems of info on these hash tags.

If you could have any of your characters meet a character from another book/movie/TV show who and why?

I would love to have Will Colter (from all 4 Prescott Pioneers Books) meet the John Wayne version of Rooster Cogburn. For some reason, I think Will could handle the cantankerous cowboy just fine. It would certainly make life on Colter Ranch interesting.

What advice do you have for other writers?

Make it a priority. I know so many writers don’t have the luxury of writing full time. So, be creative and find ways to get some time to write. I send my husband off with his friends on Saturdays so I get several hours in a quiet house to write. Sometimes I squeeze in a scene or even a chapter in the evenings after work. One of my friends likes to go to the library and write. Find what works for you can keep at it. You were made to do this!

Which characters in your stories do you feel for and why?

It’s a toss up between Julia Colter in A Heart Renewed and Mary Colter in A Hope Revealed. Both of these women suffered horribly from the same man. Yet they persevered and came out the other side with hope and healing.

My heart always goes out to anyone who has suffered abuse of any kind. It’s a hard thing to get past, but God wants to help you.

Any regrets or things you'd like to change in your books?

It’s funny you ask that. In May I just finished re-editing and re-publishing the entire Prescott Pioneers Series. I felt like there were some things that could be improved, especially in the first book, so I made it a priority to do so. The beauty of self publishing is that making changes is pretty easy. Just upload the new version and away you go. The core part of the stories are the same, I’ve just taken some of the feedback from readers and made a few things better. Writing is such a learning process and I can see how much I’ve grown between the first and fifth book.

Thanks so much for hosting me today.

I saw Avengers with a friend yesterday and it was awesome. I love action and Ironman was so funny. I also felt for the Hulk's character, like he can't control it because I feel that ay a lot about my Asperger's and OCD. I missed Spiderman but he's too good for those guys lol. Still a good movie.

Okay, let's do this

I'm gonna try to mash up Megan Linksi's "Anything But" characters with mine.
Fan Fic number one:

"Your new cellmate," a gruff voice said, startling Kirk out of his homeowrk assignment for the juvie center's school. It was a skinny, blonde haired boy.Kirk sighed, not wanting to talk to anyone.
He turned back to his work, then the boy cheerfully introduced himself. "Hey, I'm Razberry Sweet. I am am kinda nervous, really don't wanna be here but I don't wanna be in a cell witih someone I can't get along with."

Kirk smiled a little. "Um, Hi. So, why are you here?"
Razberry averted his eyes. "Just made some stupid decision with someon I thought was a friend."
"You and me both. Name's Kirk WIlliams."
Raz's eyes grew big. "Omy gosh! You're not the shooter, are you?"
Kirk felt the chill down his back. Yep, that was  all he will be known as to some. "So...what movies you like?"
"I make movies!" Raz made a camera lens gesture with his hands. "You know, I'm gonna become a big movie director and actor someday."
Kirk smiled. "I hope to make movies someday, too. "
One of the few times he smiled, ever since the shooting. He still got plagued by nightmares. Maybe he and Raz could help each other come to or closer to God and forgive themselves.
"You know what would be cool?" Raz asked.
"If we write movie scripts from the cell?"
"You got it ."

Yep, that's the title of my next book. It's about a kid who gets bullied really badly and ends up shooting a school with the pressure of two so-called friends. Even though he wanted to, he also didn't want to. So, now he is wondering if God will ever forgive him and wants to be forgiven by others as well. It's book two in the Deep River High series.

Chardon High school Shooting

This morning, TJ Lane shot five kids at CHardon high, one was killed. He was bullied. I have one link and you can find more on this.
http://www.latimes.com/news/nation/nationnow/la-na-nn-fatality-ohio-shooting-20120227,0,1080775.story

Either on there or somewhere else it said he surrendered himself to innocent bystanders. I pray he is remorseful for this and hope he is. I'm actually writing a book right now about a school shooting and to read about this...is just shocking. I needed a moment of silence after the news and went back to Narniaweb.com to see if anyone on there was around it.

This is why I write. I write to reach out to kids who are bullied and abused whether online, at school or home. Or any other social setting. Right now, my first book in Deep River High series is on Kindle. It's not abot a shooting but the book I'm writing is the second book in the series and is mostly from the shooter's point of view.

Here's "Crowded"

Goodbye Winter

Okay, it's really only February but I've been thinking of making smoothies soon. I already get them when I go out. The fruits I like in them, but not all at once I mix in a few" raspberry, banana, strawbery, blueberry

I usually put spinach or celery in them so I can get my veggies that way when i make my own. It's usually strawberry banan or strawberry blueberry. I use almond milk or fat free frozen yogurt.

Sick

Well, I still have a cold. I wanna do so much. I wanna work on  my second book that I'm trying to publish, study for history and for my speech comunications class. Would like to find things to actually work on my topic for. I don't know how I'm gonna do all this and the cold just isn't making things easier.  Any one have a good idea for a title for a book about a school shooting? I have a title already but I wanna change it.
